Background of the study:
Onitsha North Local Government Area, known for its bustling commercial activities, has witnessed a significant impact of armed robbery on its business environment. Armed robbery undermines consumer confidence, disrupts trade, and increases the cost of doing business (Eze, 2023). Business owners and traders have reported growing security concerns that hinder investment and economic growth (Ibe, 2024). The threat of armed robbery has led to increased expenditures on private security measures, thereby reducing profit margins and deterring potential investors (Okoro, 2023). Moreover, the pervasive fear of violent crime has affected consumer behavior, with many preferring to avoid commercial areas known for high incidences of robbery (Eze, 2023). In addition, the overall economic productivity of the region has been compromised due to the diversion of resources towards security rather than business development (Ibe, 2024). The study seeks to examine the direct and indirect effects of armed robbery on the business activities in Onitsha North, with a view to proposing sustainable strategies that can mitigate these adverse effects and foster a conducive business climate (Okoro, 2023).
Statement of the problem:
Armed robbery in Onitsha North Local Government Area poses a serious challenge to the vibrancy of its commercial sector. The frequent occurrence of such crimes has led to heightened security costs, reduced investor confidence, and diminished customer footfall (Eze, 2023). Business owners struggle to maintain normal operations amid persistent threats, leading to losses and stunted economic growth (Ibe, 2024). The absence of adequate security infrastructure and effective law enforcement exacerbates the problem, necessitating a thorough investigation into how armed robbery disrupts business activities and what measures could be implemented to safeguard the commercial interests of the community (Okoro, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to investigating the effect of armed robbery on business activities in Onitsha North Local Government Area, Anambra State. It will focus solely on the commercial impacts and related security issues.
